About our Juror, Townsend Wolfe

Townsend Wolfe is the former director and chief curator of The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock. His achievements and contributions are too many to mention in their entirety, but a few follow:
A native of South Carolina, he earned his BFA from the Atlanta Art Institute in Georgia, a Master's degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Arts in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a Certificate for advanced work from the Harvard Institute of Arts Administration and honorary doctoral degrees from two other institutions.
He has served on; the National Council of the Arts, Association of American Museums, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Museum Services Board, the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York, and as the curator for an exhibition in the First Lady's sculpture garden at the White House in 1995. He received the 1996 Diamond Award by the Arkansas Chapter of PRSA, and was the recipient of the 1997 Distinguished Services Award (outside the profession) by the National Art Educators Association.
Under his direction the Arkansas Arts Center grew from a small museum and arts school to a large, multi-disciplined cultural institution; the center's endowment grew from $34,000 to almost $23 million and its holdings from fewer than 800 works to more than 4000. The extensive drawing collection he acquired was described by Werner Kramarsky of New York, a prominent collector, as
one of the most important contemporary drawing collections in the United States.
